What happens when your roofer doesn't finish the job

Our roofer, Bob Devaul, had promised to come back & install snow shields before the first snow. Luckily nobody was under the edge when the first batch of snow came down in the back of the house. Pepper is inspecting the slipping snow out the front window.  It looks like it is sliding over the gutters & may not knock them down.

How an insulin pump is like a toaster

This week, I got an insulin pump. So far, I love it. I couldn't understand why Charlie wasn't happy about it, so I asked him & he said that he didn't like to think that my diabetes was getting worse. I explained that it was more a case of using a high tech tool to do the same things that I had been doing, but easier & more accurate. I was doing 4 shots/day-long acting insulin in the AM & premeal shots. With the pump, I inject once per 2-3 days, it trickles insulin 24/7 & before I eat or if my glucose goes high, I tell the pump my readings & how many grams of carbs I plan to eat. The pump figures how much more insulin to give me & I'm done.

Now, how is an insulin pump like a toaster? I told Charlie that you can toast bread under the broiler or on a stick over a fire, but it takes a lot of attention & is hard to get just right. If you have a toaster, you just set the dial & the bread comes out the same way every time without constant monitoring. More accurate results with less work.

new camera-a big disappointment

I'm very disappointed with my new trail camera. 10 megapixels should look better than this. I do have it set on the highest resolution. The battery still shows to be charged, but it refused to take pictures after 263 & the last few were very dark. It has a 6v rechargeable battery & I have tried using it for several days. I have to recharge it every day & I have still never made it through the night.

Fruit & dip

Recipe for Fruit dip. Blend 8oz Mascarpone (Italian cream cheese) with 1 vanilla Activia, 1/2t vanilla extract & 2 pkts Truvia (Or your favorite  sweetener) & 1/8t salt. Tastes like thick whipped cream.

Going to a pot luck party today. Usually I take cookies, but sometimes I add fresh pineapple & the pineapple is always a great hit. When we went to town yeaterday, Pineapples & strawberries looked good & they had fresh manderin oranges (Cuties) I added grapes & the dip this morning. This is a huge shallow bowl.

new kitty game-I am not amused...well maybe a little

With 7 kitties in the house, we use gravity water bowls which consist of  a 2 part bowl & a 3 gallon jug. Pepper has discovered that, when the jug gets down to about 1/2 gallon, he can tip the jug over & roll it all around the kitchen. Of course, he splashes water all over the floor. He's done it at least 4 times so far. We haven't seen him tipping it, but we can hear it go over & when we go to the kitchen, he's happily playing with it. It's no wonder that Charlie calls him "Devil Cat"  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Petmate-Le-Bistro-Medium-Water-System-1-ct/10450877

Baggo done & mailed

Finally, about a year past due, I finnished another baggo. For those who don't know, a baggo is a challenge in which people pack a gallon sized ziplock bag with fabrics & embellishments that they like, send them to a coordinater who sends back someone else's bag. You make something with the bag that you receive & it goes back to the person who put the bag together. The yahoo group, "Fiber Pirates" has some fantastic artists & I have received some great artwork from past baggos.
This is what I received:
Here's the finished piece. I added the cream colored background. (The blue dots are magnets temporarily holding it to the steel door.)
Close up # 1. The picture frame is 3D-only sewed down on the inner edge. Check out the gold loop trim on the edge of the quilt.
Close up # 2 I love this vase. It was the first thing that I did. A little trapunto (extra stuffing) helps the 3D look.

It seems that I'm not the only one who got behind on this project. Most of the other participants are not done. I can't wait to see what I'll get back.

Finished ruby ring

I just realized that I hadn't posted a picture of my finished ruby ring with its 2 little diamonds. I love it!
